Auto Momento: Stickyback Photography in Swindon, 1900-1919

20th Jun 2019

In the early 20th century, a photographic studio in regent Street, Swindon, offered a unique way of having your picture taken. Stickyback photos were quick, casual, fun and cheap.

The Family Museum acquired its collection of 72 ‘Stickyback’ photographs in September 2016. This exhibition shows the entire set of images and explores this little-documented style of Edwardian popular photography. It offers a unique glimpse of everyday life and ordinary people in Swindon in the last century.

This exhibition is a collaboration between The Family Museum and Swindon Museum and Art Gallery.

Time: 11:00 - 16:00

The relationship between artist and model is one of the most powerful dynamics in art.

This exhibition explores that relationship through a series of portraits and figure studies, examining both artist and sitter. As well as celebrating the ability of the artist to capture their sitter, this exhibition will reconsider the importance of the sitter as muse, inspiration, antagonist and confidante.

The exhibition includes paintings, drawings and prints by Frank Auerbach, John Bellany, Gwen John and RB Kitaj.
