Our first Open Photography Exhibition is a fantastic opportunity for photographers to demonstrate and showcase their photographic skills and creative vision and exhibit their work in a prestigious gallery environment. It is also an ideal way to celebrate the rich and diverse skills of local and regional photographers with a wider audience.

Please find below all information required ready to submit your work. Sorry, we can only accept online entries.



Submissions must be received by Friday 28 February.

All submissions must be made online along with payment. Please complete all sections of the form. Incomplete submissions will not be considered.

You may submit a maximum of three works.

Submissions must include a high resolution image of the work (minimum 1000pxl) and be sent digitally along with the application – poor quality images will not be judged.

All selected work will be shown within the Swindon Art Gallery and should be appropriate in content for a family audience. If subject matter is not appropriate for a family audience, it will not be judged.

Fees for entering is £24 (inclusive of VAT) which allows you to enter up to three works.

Entry fees are non-refundable.

Selected works must remain in the Gallery on display during the whole period of the exhibition (from day of public opening through to 4pm on day of closing).

All work must be available for purchase. The purchase price provided on the application form must include any framing and commission of 30% plus VAT. You cannot amend the price of the work once judging has taken place so please make sure you price your work accordingly.

Should your work(s) be selected, all work(s) must be wall mountable and should be fixed with mirror plates.  We will only accept works with mirror plates on delivery day.

Swindon Museum and Art Gallery cannot accept any responsibility for loss or damage to exhibits while on display. Exhibitors should make their own insurance arrangements if required and will be responsible for their own public liability insurance.

Work must match the submitted image or it will be disqualified.


Submissions will be judged by an independent panel to ensure the best range and quality of work is displayed. The judging panel’s decisions are final and due to the number of applications received, feedback for unsuccessful applicants will not be available.

Judging will take place on Monday 2 March and judges include Chris Waddell, Designer and Photographer, Frances Yeo, Swindon Museum and Art Gallery and a third judge to be announced.


Successful photographers

Successful photographers will be listed on our website and contacted by email as soon as possible after judging. 


Friends of Swindon Museum and Art Gallery have kindly sponsored a prize of £100

A £50 voucher to spend in Oink Gallery, Old Town.

£25 prize voucher for Picture Framing or Photo Mounts in our shop.


Delivery of work

If your entry(ies) are successfully selected for the exhibition, you must deliver them on Wednesday 11 March between 11.30am and 3.30pm to Swindon Museum and Art Gallery.

Work must be unpacked and checked on delivery to the Swindon Museum and Art Gallery and a receipt of submission/deposit completed by both Swindon Museum and Art Gallery and the Artist.

Packing material(s) must be taken away with you once work has been unpacked. We cannot store packing materials and any materials left behind will be disposed of by Museum staff.

Please affix a label to the back of the work(s) and include Artist name, medium, title and full price of work including commission and frame. We will not accept works that are not labelled correctly.

Collection of work

Collection of unsold work will be on Tuesday 12 May between 11.30am and 3pm. Sorry, but we are unable to post back any unsold work.

Late collections of work are subject to a charge of £5 per work, and £5 for each additional week not collected.

Please bring your submission/deposit receipt when collecting unsold work.

Please note that unsold work will not be packed in advance of collection.  This is so the Artist may check the work(s) before removing from the Gallery.  You will need to bring your own packing materials and pack your work onsite.


Private View

A Private View will take place on Tuesday 17 March, 6pm – 8pm.

Please do join us with your family and friends! There will be a paid bar at this event.

Works sold & commission

Payment for sold works will be made to Swindon Museum and Art Gallery. At the end of the exhibition, artists who sold work will be contacted and asked to invoice Swindon Museum and Art Gallery.

Please remember we take commission of 30% plus VAT of any works sold.
